One Wheel on the Ground?
By B. Careful & E. Smad
Why do you do it?" - "You must be mad!!" - "You'll hurt yourself!" These and other well known phrases spring to mind when people discover about my passion for motorbikes. This is called "Competition Trials" and involves riding over severe obstacles whilst an observer watches to see if you put your foot on the ground. If you have a steadying foot down - you lose a point. At the end of the day the rider with least penalty points is the winner. It sounds quite simple, but you should see the severity of the sections and how we deal with things. This is a balance sport, so we are able to stop and balance for long periods. In a restricted space we can change direction by hopping the bike around - even standing it on the front wheel and swinging the back around. Always feet up! If you ride a bicycle you will know that the slower you go, the harder it is to keep your balance. Add that to some terrifying hills and drops and you have the basics of trials.
