In 1976, Billy Lyall left Pilot to pursue a solo career. While Billy utilized many top-notch players on this album such as Phil Collins, Phil Chen, and the Pilot guys, the album and his solo-career never soared to the heights of Pilot's success. Billy later went on to work with the band Dollar and also worked as a session musician. Billy died from complications resulting from AIDS in 1989.

The CD also has a track, "Maniac" which is a different version of the song that appeared on the Pilot album Morin Heights. Solo Casting was re-released on CD in 1996 by See For Miles Records. The CD added the single versions of Maniac and Solocasting on to the end of the CD as tracks 11 and 12.
